Former Arsenal striker Eduardo da Silva has been in impressive form for his new team Flamengo in the last four matches. The Brazilian club recently brought the striker back to Brazilian football from the Ukrainian club Shakhtar Donetsk. His arrival to Flamengo comes at a point when the team has been struggling against the threat of relegation after a very poor start to the season. However, the last five matches has brought about a significant change in the fortunes after they have suffered just one defeat and won the remaining four matches.
This has brought them into 13th place in the table. Eduardo da Silva was greeted with a huge reception when he came off the bench and scored the winner against Atlético Mineiro in the latest league match. After two consecutive victories in the last two encounters, Flamengo looked like heading for defeat after conceding a goal in the 10th minute. However, two goals in the space of six minutes turned around their fortunes in the second half. Eduardo was one of the players brought on from the bench and scored in the 71st minute to send the home fans in jubilant mood.
The third consecutive victory means that Flamengo are now only 10 points behind the final Copa Libertadores qualifying spots.
“We are slowly coming out of this mess and hopefully come out of it on Sunday. Not every game has hero because one decides. Had the ability to decide, but it is now past and the important thing is Flamengo. I’m here to help, not to save. I’m happy for the goal. Winning gets you in heaven, but lost complicates everything. Slowly, Flamengo goes up on the table. Flamengo can not look at the top. Not have to show anything. Let’s keep walking,” said the striker after the match.
