Shakhtar Donetsk coach Mircea Lucescu says that he is extremely happy with the performance of the team in the recent Champions League win overMalmo.
A 4-0 victory saw Shakhtar Donetsk finally get three points to close the gap on second placed Paris St Germain. The Romanian team had made a very poor start to the campaign after losing three straight matches in the group stages. This victory, however, provides the team with a glimmer of hope with regards to qualification for the knockout stages. If it does not turn out to be true, then there would at least be Europa league hopes left for Shakhtar Donetsk.
Former Arsenal striker Eduardo da Silva was one of the score was on the night as he scored the third goal for Shakhtar. He has been in fine form since his return to the club a few months ago. Eduardo spent a few years back in Brazilian football. Upon his return, he has already scored five goals in nine appearances for the team. The crushing victory has enabled Shakhtar to just sneak ahead ofMalmo in the race for the third spot.Lucescu says that his team should have scored more goals for the football that they put in.
“I think Malmo should be glad with conceding only four goals. We had more than 20 attempts and could have scored many more.We have proven football based on combinations and skills – as opposed to Malmo’s long balls – can be effective. The only upset is that two important players, Srna and [Olexandr] Kucher, received yellow cards and will miss the game against Madrid.I’m glad our goalkeeper Anton Kanibolotskiy made his debut in the Champions League. He saved us in the first half and he deserved to play in this tournament,” saidLucescu, whose team face Real Madrid in the next European match.
